Are you obsessed?

Am I obsessed?

People who are obsessed with Jesus give freely and openly, without censure. Obsessed people love those who hate them and who can never love them back.

People who are obsessed with Jesus aren’t consumed with their personal safety and comfort above all else. Obsessed people care more about God’s kingdom coming to this earth than their own lives being shielded from pain or distress.

Obsessed people are more concerned with obeying God than doing what is expected or fulfilling the status quo. A person who is obsessed with Jesus will do things that don’t always make sense in terms of success or wealth on this earth.

A person who is obsessed with Jesus knows that the sin of pride is always a battle. Obsessed people know that you can never be “humble enough”, and so they seek to make themselves less known and Christ more known.

People who are obsessed with Jesus do not consider service a burden. Obsessed people take joy in loving God by loving His people.

People who are obsessed with God are known as givers, not takers. Obsessed people genuinely think that others matter as much as they do, and they are particularly aware of those who are poor around the world.

A person who is obsessed thinks about heaven frequently. Obsessed people orient their lives around eternity; they are not fixed only on what is here in front of them.

People who are obsessed are raw with God; they do not attempt to mask the ugliness of their sins or their failures. Obsessed people don’t put it on for God; He is their safe place, where they can be at peace.

A person who is obsessed with Jesus is more concerned with his or her character than comfort. Obsessed people know that true joy doesn’t depend on circumstances or environment; is is a gift that must be chosen and cultivated, a gift that ultimately comes from God.

A person who is obsessed is characterized by committed, settled, passionate love for God, above and before every other thing and every other being.

Francis Chan’s book Crazy Love has changed my life. Seriously. Conviction city. Makes me look at my comforts, safety and luxuries in a COMPLETELY different light. It made me understand that this relationship with the God I serve is just getting started…..

New Release

Francis Chan released “Forgotten God” this month. Chan’s previous book Crazy Love has sold over a quarter million copies and continues to fly off bookstore shelves. Forgotten God shares a message that is nearly as urgent and undoubtedly even more important. It is a fitting sequel that bears many resemblances to the book it follows. Check it out!

Are you lukewarm?

Lukewarm people attend church fairly regularly. It’s what’s expected. What they believe “good Christians” do, so they go.

Lukewarm people give money to charity and to the church…..as long as it doesn’t impinge on their standard of living.

Lukewarm people tend to choose what is popular over what is right when they are in conflict.

Lukewarm people don’t really want to be saved from their sin; they only want to be saved from the penalty of their sin.

Lukewarm people are moved by stories about people who do radical things for Christ, yet they do not act. Lukewarm people call “radical” what Jesus expected of all His followers.

Lukewarm people rarely share their faith with their neighbors, coworkers, or friends.

Lukewarm people gauge their morality or “goodness” by comparing themselves to the secular world.

Lukewarm people say they love Jesus, and He is, indeed a part of their lives. But only a part.

Lukewarm people love God, but they do not love Him with all their heart, soul, and strength.

Lukewarm people love others but do not seek to love others as much as they love themselves.

Lukewarm people will serve God and others, but there are limits to how far they will go or how much time, money, and energy they are willing to give.

Lukewarm people thing about life on earth much more often than eternity in heaven.

Lukewarm people are thankful for their luxuries and comforts, and rarely consider trying to give as much as possible to the poor.

Lukewarm people do whatever is necessary to keep themselves from feeling guilty.

Lukewarm people are continually concerned with playing it safe; they are slaves to the god of control.

Lukewarm people feel secure because they attend church, made a profession of faith at age twelve, were baptized, come from a Christian family, vote Republican, or live in America.

Lukewarm people do not live by faith; their lives are structured so they don’t have to.

Lukewarm people probably drink and swear less than average, but besides that, they really aren’t very different from your typical believer.

Ouch. Was the first word that came to mind after stumbling upon this. God, you had to go there?? The answer is YES. As uncomfortable as it may be sometimes, I love being called out by God. I love to see my flaws brought to the surface. I’m as guilty as the next person of many of the statements above. My prayer, as I hope is yours too, is to move past what can be a lukewarm faith and experience God for WHO HE REALLY IS, not for what we perceive Him to be. Notice Jesus gave us the command to go and make disciples, teaching them to obey. What he didn’t add to the end of that verse was- “but hey if that’s too much to ask, just tell them to become Christians–you know, the people who get to go to heaven without having to commit to anything.” Sometimes I’m convinced we’ve mastered the art of fooling ourselves. Strive to get in tune with the GOD WHO IS.

My ♥ today

I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord. Ps 27:13

All of my life, in every season, You are still God
I have a reason to sing
I have a reason to worship
